About Our Coaches
Coach Eric Jacobson brings with him a wealth of coaching knowledge that spans the last 24 years. Twenty of those years came as a high school tennis coach working with tournament players in Southern California as well as taking true beginners and turning them into All-City players.
In 20 years as a high school coach, Eric has amassed a winning percentage of 88% (98% in league) including 19 league titles and 10 years undefeated in league.
For the past 15 years, he has been certified as a United States Professional Tennis Association at the Elite Level. Coach Jacobson has directed and coached summer tennis camps in Park City, Salt Lake City, and different sites in California for 13 years.
Eric played collegiate tennis at the University of California, Santa Cruz, which was ranked #2 in the nation all four years he was there.
Terry Mak has been teaching tennis his entire adult life. After playing tennis at Eagle Rock High School, he started his career working at summer tennis camps in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah. Thus began a 15-year span of co-coaching the Eagle Rock High School tennis team, one of the top teams in Los Angeles, specializing in technique, strategy, and mental toughness. Since then, Coach Terry has worked in Pasadena at iTennis teaching all levels, from red-dot beginners to elite-level juniors and advanced adults. In 2015, he was certified as a United States Professional Association teaching pro and advanced to Assistant Director at one of iTennis’ most popular sites. This is his second year at the Big Bear adidas Tennis Camp where he hopes to help hard-working, motivated juniors and adults reach their potential in the great game of tennis.
Players will receive top-notch instruction that blends the modern game and timeless basics with the goal of making your child into the most complete, balanced, and mentally-tough player possible. The mornings will be filled with exciting drills and games emphasizing proper stroke production, movement, and singles and doubles strategy, along with video analysis, tennis-specific stretching and footwork drills, and lessons on goal setting, and other mental principles to help your child improve and enjoy the game fully. The afternoons will feature singles and doubles match play under the close direction of several coaches. Although competitive, improvement and sportsmanship will be emphasized. Players will be coached to implement the strategies and mental techniques they learn in the morning during these afternoon matches. The nights will be spent off court enjoying fun activities with our lively staff, including a trip to the famous alpine slide in Big Bear City. While nearly all other tennis camps share their facilities with others at the site, the BBSR is exclusive to us, catering to our needs with no waiting in long lines or walking long distances from the courts to the dining hall to the dorms. The time gained is used for more instruction, match play, and fun times in the evenings, resulting in a more complete and productive camp experience. Of course, campers will be supervised at all times by our fully-trained and screened tennis camp staff.

The directors and junior coaches were great. My kids came back with a renewed love for tennis. They enjoyed the individual attention to their game. They also benefited greatly from the attention to the importance of goal setting and the mental aspect of the game. They are actively working on getting friends to come back with them next summer.
My favorite part of camp was the individual practice sessions with our team coaches. The coaches kept it fun, but pushed me to do better, and I did. I thought the camp was the best one I have ever been to!
