OVERVIEW

The adidas Tennis Camps at Swarthmore College & Loomis Racquet Academy is a small, intensive, and fun tennis camp on the gorgeous campus of Swarthmore College. Campers will learn about all facets of the game in a structured yet nurturing environment. Instruction is conducted in small groups with the typical ratio being roughly 4-5 students per coach. We will focus on fundamentals, but have an individualized approach so that each camper is challenged and can improve their specific needs.

Camp is open to all ages and ability levels. We assess each camper’s ability during the first session of camp and make sure they are grouped according to their age and abilities so this way we can tailor the drills, games, and match-play to fit their individual needs.

Camp Director

Jeremy Loomis
Jeremy LoomisHead Women's Coach at Swarthmore

With over 35 years of playing and tennis coaching experience, Jeremy Loomis has an abundance of knowledge about tennis and experience with player development. Under his watch, Swarthmore has earned its highest national ranking (#14), won 3 Centennial Conference Team Championships and has had 3 NCAA Division III Singles All-Americans and 1 Doubles All-American team.

Coach Loomis is a Professor of Physical Education at Swarthmore College specializing in racquet sports. Over the years, he has taught classes in table tennis, badminton, cardio tennis, and Racketlon (a combined racquet sport event that involves table tennis, badminton, squash, and tennis),.

As a competitive tennis player growing up, Loomis was a top ranked junior tennis player from the Mid-Atlantic area and played #1 singles and #1 doubles for the University of Maryland. After graduating, he earned an ATP world ranking in doubles and was a gold medalist in the 2001 World Maccabiah Games. In 2010, he returned to the competitive arena and achieved a #1 ranking in the Middle States/ Philadelphia District in the 35 and over division.

Coach Loomis began his tennis coaching career overseas in Jakarta, Indonesia where he helped train the Indonesian Junior National Team which also housed Fed Cup and Davis Cup players. After a year abroad, he returned to earn a master’s degree in Exercise Science from Miami (Ohio) University and helped the men’s tennis team to 2 consecutive conference championships. He then took the helm at his alma mater (Maryland) and was the Head Tennis Coach of the men’s tennis team and assistant tennis coach for the women’s tennis team. While performing his tennis coaching duties, he also completed an M.B.A. from the R.H. Smith School of Business.

Prior to starting his tenure at Swarthmore College, he spent one year as the assistant women’s tennis coach at Duke University. In that year, the Blue Devils ended the year with a #6 team national ranking, won the ACC regular season title, and had 2 All-American singles players and an All-American doubles team.

Assistant Camp Director

Ross Silverberg
Ross SilverbergAssistant Women's Coach at Swarthmore

Prior to joining Swarthmore, Ross coached the Cherry Hill High School East Boys Tennis team in 2022 and 2023. In that role, Ross led the team to a top-10 state ranking and winning the South Jersey Group IV Title. Ross has coached numerous players competing collegiately and has also instructed at the University of Pennsylvania Tennis Center, Philadelphia Country Club, Loomis Racquet Academy, and Berlin Voorhees Tennis Center.

Ross graduated from Franklin and Marshall College (F&M) in 2013, majoring in Government and minoring in Economics. He was the #1 singles and doubles player for the Diplomats and team captain. Additionally, he was one of only two Centennial Conference (CC) Player of the Year award winners in program history. He earned All-CC First Team honors on three occasions – which made him just the 15th in CC history to accomplish that feat at the time. Silverberg totaled seven All-CC accolades in his career with four singles awards and three doubles honors. He is tied for the F&M career leader in wins with a 66-22 record, while his 20-9 mark in 2013 is tied for the Diplomats’ single-season record.

After graduating from F&M, Ross earned a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center and then completed a Masters in Secondary Education from Rutgers University.
