10 Reasons to Go to Tennis Camp This Summer
There are many reasons you might want to go to a tennis summer camp. These apply whether you are already a great player or you have never played before but are wanting to learn. It also applies to people that just want something fun to do to pass away the summer.
10 Reasons You Want to Go to Tennis Camp
There are many reasons you want to go to tennis camp, but here are 10 good ones.
-
You will learn a lot.
One of the most obvious but beneficial reasons to go to camp is to learn. If you want to learn how to play tennis, going to a summer camp is one of the best places to do this. Camps are designed to teach you all of the fundamentals. You will learn how to serve, volley, and hit. At camp, you will learn how to do a backhand pass. You will learn to play doubles and singles, as well as the rules of the game and how to keep score. Plus, anything else you might not know yet. In essence, it is just a good place to learn.
-
You will have a lot of fun.
Even if you were not going to learn anything at tennis camp, which of course you will, you still want to go just because it is a lot of fun. If you enjoy playing tennis or have always wanted to play, then you will get to do that a lot when you are at camp. Every day will find you out there on the court getting to play. And if you go to an overnight camp, there will likely be a lot of other fun activities such as swimming.
-
You will make friends.
When you go to any camp, you spend a lot of time with people your own age. It is the perfect time to make new friends. And when you go to the same camp year after year, you might grow up with many of the same people. However, when you go to a special interest camp, like tennis camp, the chances of making friends are even higher because everyone you are at camp with shares a similar interest as you. Plus, you might meet your perfect doubles partner.
-
You will create connections.
When you go to camp, you will have coaches and instructors. Some of these people might be college coaches or well-respected tennis instructors. How does that help you? Having connections in the field of tennis will make it easier to learn about programs and try outs that might be of interest to you as well as get recommendations from people when needed.
-
You will gain mentors.
Even if you are already an incredible player when you go to camp, you can still learn a lot while you are there. Outside of the advanced skills they will teach you, you are also able to interact with people who have played at higher levels than you. For example, maybe one of your instructors will be a college player.
You will be able to gain mentors who can guide you through some of the concerns you may have. For example, they may be able to give you tips on how to handle a school load while playing a college sport or how they got a scout to look at them in the first place.
-
You will improve your skills.
Even if you think you know everything there is to know about tennis already, you can still improve your personal game. Whether you perfect your backhand or learn to be an ace server, with the training, drills, and consistent playing you will be doing at camp, you can only get better. Plus, with the benefit of your trainers, they may be able to spot that one small thing you are doing that is holding you back from getting the results that you want.
-
You will become more likely to make teams.
As your skills improve, so do your chances of making the teams or winning the tournaments that you are competing in. Whether this is your high school team, college team, travelling team, or club team and no matter what the tournament is in which you want to participate, your chances get better the more you improve. Which is what you will do when you go to camp.
-
You will have a good extracurricular activity for applications.
When it comes time to applying to college, it is not always enough to have good grades and great test scores. A lot of time, you need to be seen as a well-rounded applicant with many extracurricular interests. There are lots of things to do to improve your application. For example, you can volunteer or play sports outside of camp. However, should you decide to go to camp, then you have yet another item to put on your list of reasons you are qualified to attend the college you want to attend.
-
You will get fit.
While tennis camp is going to be a lot of fun, it is also going to be a lot of work. In order to improve, you have to practice and play often. While you will enjoy this if you really love tennis, it does mean you are going to get a lot of exercise. So at the end of the camp, you will be in a lot better shape than when you started.
-
You will gain confidence in your game.
Jennifer Knightstep, in a post on allwomentalk, points out that going to any summer camp helps build self-esteem. However, it is especially true as you improve a specific skill.
As you improve at anything, you become a more comfortable player. When you see yourself getting better, you start to consider yourself a good player. Once you realize how good you have gotten, you start to play with more confidence. The more confident you feel, the better you actually play. Which means even feeling better about yourself will improve your game.
